GLOBALSTAR is a consortium founded in 1991 by a group of telecommunications companies. The Globalstar system is designed to provide high-quality satellite communication services to a wide range of users. It was originally formed as a system intended to interact with existing cellular networks, supplementing and extending their capabilities by providing communication outside coverage zones, as well as for stationary communication in remote areas where creating cellular infrastructure or public network infrastructure is impractical for economic or technological reasons. The Globalstar system is built on 48 primary and 4 backup low-orbital satellites. The satellites are located on 8 orbits with 6 devices on each at an altitude of 1414 km and an inclination of 52 degrees. The advantage of using low-orbital satellites in the Globalstar satellite communication system is the imperceptible signal delay.

The system has global coverage. Except for polar regions:
In Africa - works: in Morocco, Algeria, Western Sahara, Canary Islands, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia. The rest of Africa is not covered by Globalstar satellite communication.
In Asia - does not work: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, all Southeast Asian countries.

The voice communication quality is excellent. In the territory of the Russian Federation, except for polar regions, the satellite phone sees three satellites at a time.
