Satellite Communication Solution Office-Ship

We would like to present to you the most optimal and economically justified option for satellite communication between a sea vessel and an office.

The solution consists of: Iridium Pilot (installed on the vessel); Iridium 9555 + Beam IntelliDock + active antenna RST-500 (installed in the office).

Equipment on the vessel: Iridium Pilot

This equipment is designed for use on sea vessels and provides internet access at speeds up to 134 kbit/s plus three independent telephone lines (two phones are included in the package, one can be purchased optionally). The terminal is easy to configure, does not require any special skills for installation, and has a flexible configuration system and firewall. A major advantage of the terminal is that it operates on the Iridium network. Iridium satellite communication covers the entire planet, and due to the features of the Iridium satellite system, weather conditions have minimal impact on the quality and stability of the connection.

The terminal’s external antenna is omnidirectional and does not require a gyro platform, which allows the terminal to be used in any conditions and eliminates mechanical failures that are common in terminals with gyro-stabilized antennas due to the destructive effects of salt water and constant high humidity.

Iridium tariffs are the same all over the planet. No matter where the vessel is located, the communication fee will be charged at the same rate, and all incoming calls are free.

More information about the Iridium Pilot can be found here.

Office equipment:

The office equipment consists of the Iridium 9555 satellite phone (description of this model can be found here), complete with the BEAM IntelliDOCK docking station and the active RST-500 antenna.

The BEAM docking station is necessary for connecting the active antenna and for convenient use of the phone in the office. The docking station is also equipped with Bluetooth for connecting a headset. An original Motorola handset is included. If necessary, the phone can be easily removed from the docking station and used independently.

The active RST-500 antenna is installed in a location with maximum sky visibility (ideally on the roof of the building, in which case communication is guaranteed without interruptions and with a stable signal). The antenna comes with a 50-meter cable, allowing it to be installed in almost any convenient location without loss of signal quality.

This solution provides constant, protected from eavesdropping and tracking communication with minimal airtime costs.

Cost of the solution:

  • Iridium Pilot = $7,550 + airtime
  • Iridium 9555 = $1,100 + airtime
  • BEAM IntelliDOCK = $700
  • RST-500 = $800

  • Total for vessel equipment $7,550 + office equipment $2,600 = $10,150

This solution is optimal if there is no need for broadband internet access on the vessel. In other cases, solutions based on marine VSAT should be considered.
